Facebook tumor.

I received an email from Facebook informing me that I have provided some organization with my email address and I therefore should be getting emails such as these from Facebook.

Perhaps I did, I don't know, but I doubt it.  I never give my email address to "organizations" that I don't absolutely have to, and while that is just about all of them, this one wasn't included, I'm pretty sure.  But what if I did? What does Facebook have to do with it?

I instinctively mashed the "This is Spam" button, not quite registering that it was spelled in pale blue type, and a moment later saw a Facebook page courteously informing me that "we have recorded that you do not want to receive email messages from X.  We are sorry for the inconvenience."

Now hold on. I do not use Facebook, nor will I ever, willingly. Why then is it "recording" my wants?  I back-page a couple of times and find the "Unsubscribe' button that Facebook, once again, has deigned to offer me.  I press it, and am taken to a page that notifies me that I have been "unsubscribed." But why am I anything to Facebook, subscribed or no?

I suppose it's because so many other webpages are somehow wired into it that they disclosing information about my visits to them to Facebook, and the folks there feel that they know me.  And who knows just how right they might be?  All I know is, I can't wait until the databases all melt down, and the Facebook tumor is gone.
